Air Conditioning repair and replacement in the Tri-Cities

Installation, replacement, repair and maintenance on every make and model, with a plain answer on whether to fix or replace.

Chapter 01

What fails in a Tri-Cities summer

When the Columbia Basin reaches its summer highs, an air conditioner that limped along in June quits in July. The usual suspects are cheap parts under load: a run capacitor that has weakened, a contactor with pitted points, a refrigerant charge that has slowly leaked low. Each one is a short repair if it is caught, and each one can wear out a compressor if it is ignored.

Outdoors, the condenser coil takes its own beating. Cottonwood fluff, dust and lawn clippings pack into the fins around Pasco and Kennewick, the unit can't shed heat, and it runs longer and hotter to cool the same house. A coil that looks fine from the patio can be half blocked once you shine a light through it.

How a repair call runs

A good repair call is a set of measurements before it is a set of parts. The technician checks static pressure in the ducts, the refrigerant charge, and the temperature split across the indoor coil, which is the difference between the air going in and the air coming out. Those three numbers say whether the problem is the equipment, the airflow or the charge.

Then comes a straight answer about repair or replacement. Air-Tech's technicians arrive in a vehicle stocked with parts, and they will say plainly when a system has more repair bills than years left. If a replacement makes sense, the team will work out the expected savings for your house on the visit. Call (509) 392-2021 to book one.

Chapter 03

After the fix

Most cooling breakdowns start with airflow, so the cheapest insurance is a clean filter. Check it monthly through the cooling season and change it when light no longer shows through. Keep a couple of feet of clear space around the outdoor unit, trim back plants and rake away fluff, and leave anything deeper than that to a technician.

The AT Advantage Program puts the rest on a schedule. Every plan includes two visits a year and a multi-point heating and cooling inspection, so the spring visit can get the air conditioner ready before the first hot week. Air-Tech, based in Pasco, offers four plans to Tri-Cities homeowners, and the plan page lays out what each one adds.
