Gas Furnaces for Kennewick, Pasco and Richland

Repairs on a cold morning, straight advice on a replacement, and the upkeep that keeps a furnace running.

Chapter 01

What fails on a cold morning

A furnace that won't start on a frosty morning is usually one of a few small parts. The hot surface igniter cracks after years of heating up. The flame sensor gets coated, so the furnace lights, sees no flame and shuts down after a few seconds. A pressure switch sticks when the inducer or the vent has a problem. A technician tests each in turn instead of swapping parts and hoping.

The one that matters most is the heat exchanger. A crack lets combustion gases mix with house air, so a proper visit includes a look inside with a light and a combustion check. If yours has failed, replacement is the honest answer. Air-Tech serves Kennewick, Pasco and Richland, and the 24-hour emergency service picks up when the house goes cold. The number is (509) 392-2021.

Choosing a furnace: fuel, stages and AFUE

Fuel comes first, and where a natural gas line reaches the house, a gas furnace is the usual choice. After that comes how it runs. A single-stage furnace is either on or off. A two-stage furnace runs at full or about half output. A variable-speed unit adjusts continuously and runs long and quiet. More stages means more even heat from room to room, especially in a larger house.

AFUE stands for annual fuel utilization efficiency. It's the share of the fuel a furnace turns into heat for the house rather than sending up the flue, so a higher number means less gas wasted. Air-Tech doesn't steer everyone to the top of the range. Its promise is to recommend the right system for your home, not the most expensive one, and a free consultation is where that starts.

Chapter 03

Maintenance that matters

A furnace lives or dies by airflow, so the filter comes first. Check it monthly through the winter and change it when you can't see light through it. A clogged filter makes the blower work harder and lets the heat exchanger run hot, which shortens the life of both.

Once a year a technician cleans the burners, tests the safety controls, checks gas pressure and runs the combustion check. On a high-efficiency furnace they also clear the condensate trap and drain, because that's where acidic water leaves the unit and a blockage shuts it down. The AT Advantage Program bundles two visits a year, each with a multi-point heating and cooling inspection.
