Ductless Systems for Pasco and the Tri-Cities

Mini splits for the room the ductwork never reached, installed, repaired and maintained by the Pasco shop.

Chapter 01

Where a ductless system earns its place

Some rooms never got a fair share of the ductwork. An addition over the garage, a bonus room that runs hot every August, a shop out back, or a whole older house in Pasco that was built with baseboard heat and never had ducts at all. A ductless system serves those spaces with one small outdoor unit and a slim indoor head high on the wall.

With no duct run to build, the work stays out of your attic and walls. Each head has its own thermostat, so a spare bedroom can sit idle while the room you're living in holds its temperature. Add a second or third head and you have zones without a damper or a length of duct in sight.

How an install runs, from wall to outdoor pad

The installer picks the head's spot first: high on a wall, clear airflow, and a short path to the outside. One small hole through the wall carries the refrigerant line set, the power and the condensate drain. The outdoor unit sits on a pad or a wall bracket, and the line set gets its cover so it looks finished from the street.

Before anything is charged, the line set and indoor coil are pulled down to a deep vacuum and held there. That proves the joints are tight and removes moisture that would otherwise damage the compressor. Then the charge is checked against the maker's figures, the drain is tested with water, and every head is run through heating and cooling before the crew leaves.

Air-Tech is a Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Contractor, and the team services other makes too. Someone looks at your layout and square footage and tells you how many heads it really needs.

Chapter 03

Keeping the indoor heads clean

The filters in a mini split are reusable, and they load up faster than most people expect. Rinse them about once a month, more often in a house with pets or a smoker, and let them dry fully before they go back in. A choked filter starves the coil of air, and the head starts to ice up, blow weakly or trip off.

The part you can't see is the coil and blower wheel behind the front panel. Dust and film build up there over a few seasons, and a neglected head drips condensate, smells musty or rattles. A technician takes the head apart, cleans the coil and wheel and flushes the drain, which makes it a natural job for a maintenance visit. Every AT Advantage plan includes two visits a year.
